Belhaven Univ. - Men's Soccer


Carl Griffiths is in his sixth season as the Head Coach of the Men's Soccer program at Belhaven. Griffiths took over the program before the 2014 season and has coached the Blazers to an 33-17-3 mark overall.

During the 2015 season, Griffiths led the program to its first NCCAA National Tournament and its 11th overall national tournament appearance in program history. Griffiths and the Blazers finished the NCCAA National Tournament as a semifinalist.

Griffiths came to Belhaven with a wealth of experience as a coach and player at the NCAA Division III level. Griffiths spent the two seasons at Waynesburg (Penn.) University prior to Belhaven, where he served as the Head Coach for both the men's and women's soccer programs.

Griffiths led the Waynesburg men to a combined 18-12-4 record over the two seasons. After an 8-8-1 campaign in 2012, Griffths guided the club to a 10-4-3 mark in his second season. On the strength of that success, Griffths was selected as the 2013 President's Athletic Conference Men's Coach of the Year and had three players named to the PAC All-Conference Team. In addition, he coached one NSCAA All Region Player and his team earned an NSCAA Academic Award. Griffiths has earned NSCAA National, Advanced National and Premier Diplomas and in 2011 was chosen by the US Soccer Federation and US State Department for work internationally with Ugandan coaches.

Griffiths began his coaching career at Wheaton College as an assistant coach from 2009-11. Griffiths was also an outstanding player at Wheaton, helping guide the team to the NCAA Division III National Championship game in 2006 against Messiah College. During his four year career, Griffiths helped Wheaton to play in the NCAA Tournament each season.

As a player, Griffiths appeared in 67 games, including 24 starts as a senior co-captain. During his senior year, Griffiths was named to the NCAA Final Four All-Tournament Team and was a CCIW All-Conference selection.

Carl is married to Lyndsie and they have three children; Elliana, Micaiah, and Laelyn.
